The more I delve into fashion and home decor, I find myself drawn to some more modern elements.  Surprised?  I sure was!  This week I’d like to share with you some beautiful chevron inspiration from pinterest!  Some of these are modern and some have a decidedly funky feel.  I know you can guess which ones are my favs!  Just notice how many areas of your home and style you can work this fun pattern into.  It’s a keeper for sure!

As I’ve said, I took on a challenge from Donna at Funky Junk Interiors to complete a room in my home.  Now I’m happy to say the first room is finished!  Wooohooooo! Remember, this is not a make over.  This is completing unfinished projects, decorating and fluffing, with what I have!  Here is my favorite photo.

There were a few things on my list I didn’t get done but I decided that’s ok!  It’s *done* enough and I’m happy with it.  Remember, I’m using what I have as much as possible!  I only spent NINE dollars in here, everything else was from my stash.

It’s already so much better!  Here is what I have finished so far:

change drapes

install closet light

paint left chest

swap right chest

refinish dresser

paint/replace all furniture hardware

rearrange furniture

The still needs to be done list:

Hide cords, put door on dresser, install base molding and decorate!

This room is north facing with very little natural light so the colors are giving me quite a challenge but I WILL prevail!  YES I will! lol

Notice that brilliant orange?  That is THE Color of the Year for 2012… swoon!  Any of these bright colors would be amazing on a single piece of furniture.  Having trouble visualizing how that would work?  Houzz. com has some amazing examples here!

Another way to incorporate them into your home would be with pillows, window treatments and accessories for an easy to change out look that will stay fresh and fun!

update bedding – add cream spread, pattern coverlet and sham - DONE

change drapes – (Kate is doing this for me soon) – gold panels from living room

do something with the 2 white euro shams – paint edging on one, cover other with grey sweater

paint left hand bed chest – DONE

new knobs on left chest – DONE ($9 at Hobby Lobby)

swap right hand bed table – DONE

paint or cover louvered doors in fabric – if you’ve ever painted shutters or louvers you know why I’m contemplating covering these lol

refinish dresser – ip (almost finished! painting the hardware and adding poly topcoat today)

install closet light – DONE

Can’t wait to get the last few things done and then pretty it all up!  So far I’ve spent a grand total of $9 (wait until you see these knobs!) and everything else is from my stash.  The only thing that’s bugging me so far is the table I put on the right hand side of the bed is about 4″ taller than the one on the left side.  Now my lamps are nowhere near the same height.  This is a problem for me!  Not sure what I’m going to do about it yet…  any suggestions other than trying a different table on the right?

Figure out what my word is yet? lol  It’s DO!

Let me explain to you why I chose this word.  I knew I needed something that would light a fire under me.  I went through several words, such as clarity, open, reach, accomplish and that’s when I realize I needed an action word.  I didn’t want to discover, realize, invest or anything else along those lines… I just wanted to DO.  Not that there’s anything wrong with those words! Gosh no!!  They just weren’t right for me :)

As I’ve said before, I’m a big procrastinator also so the word *do* is a big step for me.  By the time I think, plan, contemplate, etc there’s no doing being done! lol  I’m sure many of you can relate to this also.

Here’s to 2012 and the DOING in my life!

Right, that’s a big blank!  I’m still not-so-patiently-now waiting for my word.  Is anyone else having this dilemma?  How are you handling it?  I’d love some insight please!

If you made it this far, I LOVE YOU! hehe  That’s how things are now but they are changing for the better!  Lots of color and texture are being added and a whole lotta FUN too!
